The cement paste is typically made up of portland cement and water and may also contain supplementary cementing materials (SCMs), such as fly ash or slag cement, and chemical admixtures. So, the cement paste does not contain any aggregates either fine or coarse. Cement paste is what hold the aggregate together in mortar and concrete.
